Paulo Regulus Neves Freire was born in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil on September 19, 1921 and died on May 2, 1997. Paulo Freire was perhaps the most influential thinker about eduction in the twentieth century. He made a number of important theoretical innovations with considerable impact on the development of educational practice and on informal education and popular education in particular. The American School of Recife is since 1957 a private elementary, middle and high school in Recife Pernambuco Brazil. Instructions are in English and students will either learn English or Portugese as their second language, depending on the country of origin.
